Known for strength, and ruler of the animal kingdom, the lions in the background and the frame of Alios Itzhak reference both Jewish and Ethiopian roots. These Lions of Judah symbolize the Tribe of Judah, one of the Twelve Tribes that formed biblical Israel and one of two tribes from which all modern Jews are believed to be descended. The Lions of Judah also appeared on the Ethiopian flag throughout the 20th century until 1974, honoring the nation’s generations of kings who also descend from Judah.
